This is family, this is unity. This is celebration, this is sacred.
In the Beginning...
In 2010 a small group of 10 – 12 people started having meet ups at friends homes to share guided meditation offer reiki, ceremony, drumming, sound healings, and open dialog around deep rooted ancient indigenous knowledge. These meet ups were the first of the tribe called MOTM. (Meetings of the Minds)
During one of our meet ups I mentioned we should just go camping and just do all this for an entire weekend. Since I said it, if it was to be – it was up to me. We began with just about 30 people at the first retreat in 2011 with a ceremony for blessing the spring waters where we camped. We continued holding gatherings with different themes for each ceremony twice a year for 5 years at The Alabama Coushatta Indian Reservation on beautiful Lake Tombigbee.
Since I said it, if it was to be – it was up to me.
We are not here to heal the earth, we are here to heal our relationship to the earth.
— Marshall 'Golden Eagle' Jack
The gathering's name was not Medicine for the People before 2016. (see past event pages below) . We actually named the gathering according to what the prayer was for. We had a different name each time according to the ceremony performed for the theme. Elemental Harmony Tribal Gathering was a ceremony for each of the elements throughout the weekend. Divine Union was to balance the masculine and feminine etc. Through the years we had ceremonial prayers for the trees, one for the bees, for the lands, indigenous tribes, Mother Earth etc. So all gatherings have been prayer/service oriented, reverence based and ceremony (using collective mind) as a core component.
I was advised for years to brand it, but I was reluctant to cause it sounded too much like a business plan starting. Then one day in 2016 while walking my dog it came to me that no matter what I have called each gathering they are all a form of Medicine. It is not the planet we need to heal – it is our relationship with the planet that needs healing. So it dawned on me it has always been Medicine for the People. This is how the name was born.
In the Last 14 Years, We've Grown
Welcome new family members!
Through the years we have set out to find those who are seeking spiritual community. Often our spiritual community members are isolated from families and friends. Some of us don’t quite fit in with main stream religions and set our own path. We honor this inner path and welcome those who inquire deep within and question the narratives of institutions want to monopolize our deepest beliefs.
At MFTP we honor each individual for their uniqueness and celebrate the variety of healing, connecting, and sharing of beliefs modalities and view points. Each path is unique and very personal- let’s take the time to explore each of the medicines to know which is right for us.
